The SNUG Team

Liz S has been SNUG Program Coordinator and team leader since 2011. Before this she was a registered psychologist, and has since achieved a graduate certificate in Special Education, working towards a Masters of Primary Teaching.

Liz S has been the heartbeat of this project ensuring families were prepared and activities planned to ensure families not only had a great time but built strong connections. With her vision for SNUG, she ensured all staff and volunteers brought the same passion and care to their roles. She always makes everyone feel welcome and valued.

“It has been an honour to spend my working life alongside families raising children with rare conditions. Watching them grow through the SNUG program from toddlers to teens and all the joy and heartbreak that this has involved, has been a privilege that I’ll be forever grateful for. I’m constantly in awe of the SNUG community, what they achieve as families and individuals, and how they support each other. I truly hope that we find a way to continue this important and life-changing work, because for 15 years I have witnessed firsthand the beauty and power of SNUG.”

SNUG Mentoring Project Officer

Liz L came on board as the SNUG Mentoring Project officer in 2025. Before this Liz was a High School head teacher of special education and is currently working towards a Masters of Inclusive Education.

Liz L and the mentoring role were a perfect match. Through her guidance, our SNUG teens and young adults have built their confidence and found their voice in a safe place, where they can share their knowledge and support younger children facing the challenge of growing up with a rare condition, and make some fun memories in the process.

"I could talk all day about why I love SNUG retreats and the impact they have on families, but nothing will ever beat watching mentors put their lanyards on for the first time. They sit a little taller, head held high and understand the importance of the role they are taking on. Watching them grow and connect over the weekend and exceed everyone's expectations on how they take on the role, proves we need more opportunities to let young people shine"
